Assistant Deputy Minister and Director of Police Services

The Policing and Security Branch within the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General provides central oversight of policing, law enforcement and the security industry in B.C. The branch also develops and administers public safety initiatives dedicated to the protection of British Columbians and plays an integral role in enhancing service delivery through new approaches to common policing issues and integrated inter-jurisdictional cooperation efforts. It ensures that policing is accountable, performance based and evidence-led and that it works in an integrated manner with justice, the social sector and community partners.

In collaboration with the Public Safety Transformation Team, the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) and Director of Police Services is responsible for key aspects of the development, operation, and enforcement of government policy and programs that govern policing, law enforcement and security. The ADM must establish and maintain links through a variety of provincial, federal, and municipal governments, security industry representatives, and community groups to recommend proactive responses to policing and security services issues throughout B.C.

The ideal candidate for this role will be an influential, trusted, and consensus-driven senior leader who has an advanced understanding of both government and law enforcement structures. Their strong analytical and superior communication skills will inspire confidence in their leadership of high-performing, professional team, and the senior government executives they will be advising. With the ability to maintain positive relationships across a spectrum of partnerships inside and outside the policing, security and law enforcement communities, this individual will thrive on the challenges of balancing a complex and sensitive portfolio, with both strategic and operational needs.
