Building and Plumbing Official
REGULAR PART-TIME (0.70 FTE)
POSITION SUMMARY
The Village of Anmore is inviting applications for the position of Building and Plumbing Official. Reporting to the Manager of Development Services, this position will be responsible for performing a variety of duties related to building and plumbing inspection and plan examination.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs building inspections and plan evaluations;
- Assist the Development Services Department in performing the review and processing of building, development, signage, and development variance permits;
- Review of proposed building designs, materials and devices for compliance with Village bylaws and related regulations and codes;
- Process, accept and reject proposed building construction plans;
- Prepare a listing of non-conforming issues and discuss them with permit applicants;
- Provide information services to the public on technical, regulatory and Building & Plumbing Code requirements, including relevant Village bylaws;
- Calculate and determine permit fees and development cost charges;
- Prepare related correspondence and reports, as required;
- Bylaw enforcement related to building and zoning bylaw compliance
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
- BOABC Level 1 qualification and POABC Level 1 qualification (required)
- Construction experience and/or trade qualification (Building or Plumbing) or building technology diploma (preferred)
- Relevant experience in building/plumbing inspection and plan checking and/or experience in the construction industry with preference given to related experience in municipal government
- Sound knowledge of residential and commercial construction methods and the BC Building and Plumbing Codes ;
- Ability to effectively read and interpret construction drawings;
- Knowledge of and experience with municipal operations;
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license ;
- Proficient with computers and MS Office suite;
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in customer service, conflict resolution, and use a balanced approach and mature judgment in decision making. Key attributes include the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships including the ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.
