The City of Coquitlam is seeking a self-motivated individual to join our Engineering and Public Works team. This position plays a key part in delivering excellent customer service to both internal and external customers, as well as performing complex administrative duties to support department functions. In this role, you will be the public’s primary point of contact providing customer service at the front desk, on the phone, and via email, regarding all of the department’s operations, services, programs, events, bylaws and regulations. The successful incumbent will be required to effectively and courteously handle complex enquiries and contentious complaints that may arise. This position is also responsible for creating and assigning service requests for action, receiving, processing, distributing and tracking a variety of permit applications for City services, as well as liaising with developers and contractors to explain regulations and requirements. They will request and collect permit and service-related deposits, refunds, and fees from customers, and process the related transactions through an electronic payment system. Additionally, this position will prepare and review a variety of records, reports, files, logs and correspondence for accuracy, completeness, and conformance with department standards.
Our ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication and customer-service skills and have prior experience in a similar role within a municipality or another high-volume customer service role. Completion of grade 12 education is required, and supplementary office administration or commercial coursework would be considered an asset. Knowledge in the use of all Microsoft Office suite products is required, as well as some experience working with spreadsheets, scheduling software, contract administration and record keeping. A high degree of attention to detail as well as the ability to work with minimal supervision is essential for this position.
The City offers a competitive salary of $29.13 – $34.23 per hour (2022 rates) and an excellent benefits package. Applicants under consideration will be required to undergo a police security clearance, as well as submit a satisfactory driving record (obtained within the past 30 days).
