The City of Fort Saskatchewan has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, highly competent, results orientated, progressive leader. Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief is responsible for the overall leadership and management of Operations/Training of Fire Services. The Deputy Fire Chief is a member of the Fire Services Leadership Team and supports and implements the vision and direction of the Fire Chief, while playing a critical leadership role in achieving the departments’ operational goals and objectives. The Deputy Fire Chief supports initiatives that contribute to achieving the organizational- wide Diversity and Inclusion strategy and commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.
 
This position develops and maintains the departments’ operations program to ensure the departments compliance with occupational health and safety and operational effectiveness; develops and maintains the departments professional development training program to ensure the departments compliance with mentorship and professional development; develops and maintains the departments firefighter Paid On Call recruit training program; develops and maintains the departments asset and material management program including, but not limited to, preventative maintenance; develops and maintains the departments incident mitigation program, which includes, but is not limited to, incident safety education and community education outreach; and develops and maintains all planning and logistical related documentation and records. The Deputy Fire Chief will have a role within the Emergency Management Program and will act as one of our Deputy Directors of Emergency Management (DDEM).
 
The successful candidate will have excellent collaboration, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills. This person will have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with a diverse range of audiences. It is essential that the successful candidate have strong team building and supervisory skills, with a demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor and coach staff.
 
This position requires the completion of a diploma in public/business administration, leadership, Fire Science, or management. The successful candidate will have 7 years’ experience working in emergency services, along with 5 years’ experience working in a supervisory/leadership role. An equal combination of skills and experience may be considered. Experience working within a composite fire department is preferred. The City of Fort Saskatchewan offers a competitive compensation package with a salary range of $120,471 to $141,726 per annum. A current 5-year drivers abstract will be required at the time of interview.
