Due to a promotion, Foothills County has an opportunity for an experienced and proven leader with excellent communication skills to join the organization and provide overall strategic leadership, management and direction for the Fire, Patrol and Municipal Enforcement, Emergency Management, Parks & Recreation, Family & Community Support Services, Cemeteries and Airport components of the municipality. The position plays a crucial role on the Senior Leadership Team for Foothills County.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Community and Emergency Services will be a culture builder and change agent in charge of fostering a service excellence philosophy throughout the organization and making sure that current and future departmental plans are in line with Council-approved bylaws, policies, the Municipal Government Act, provincial law, and the County’s strategic priorities.
 
The Director of Community and Emergency Services is a Designated Officer of Foothills County and is authorized by the County Council and appointed by the Chief Administrative Officer to carry out the powers, duties and function of a Designated Officer pursuant to the Municipal Government Act and any other relevant statute, regulation or bylaw.
 
To be successful in this position you will need:

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field with 5 – 10 years of increasingly professional experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years in municipal government is preferred.
  • Local Government Administration Certificate would be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity and understanding of the Municipal Government Act, bylaws, policies and procedures.
