The City of Abbotsford is currently offering a dynamic opportunity for a passionate, focused professional to join our team as our Economic Development Coordinator.

The Economic Development Coordinator works with the Manager, Economic Development and the rest of the Economic Development team to implement projects and activities that support local businesses and attract new investment in alignment with the City’s strategic goals. The Coordinator supports the work of the Economic Development team by conducting industry research, preparing reports, communicating with stakeholders, maintaining marketing communications collateral, and managing day-to-day administrative functions such as drafting agendas and minutes for various networking meetings. Duties may include representing the City at community functions, as well as supporting the Film Officer, Corporate Sponsorship Contractor, and Community and Special Events teams as needed throughout the year.  

This is a public-facing position and the Coordinator will work with the Manager to build and nurture positive and productive relationships with the business community in order to maximize investment opportunities.

The Coordinator will assist with collaboration with external stakeholders such as industry associations, Abbotsford Downtown Business Association, Tourism Abbotsford, the Chamber of Commerce, the Fraser Valley Indo-Canadian Business Association, First Nations and regional/neighbouring organizations, and internally with City staff to guide businesses through City processes and requirements for sustainable growth.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in economic development, preferably in a local government setting; enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, and is dedicated to collaboration, communication and teamwork.

In addition, the ideal candidate will have:

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in economics, business or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and relevant work experience; and
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in an office and/or local government setting.
