Are you passionate about safety and helping others? The City of Burnaby is actively recruiting for a First Aid Attendant to assist in the provision of a health and safety program for the Engineering department! The person in this role maintains the first aid room and an inventory of first aid supplies according to required standards; and prepares and maintains records, reports, and statistics. An employee of this class also assists the Safety Officer in the identification of safety related training needs and investigation of accidents. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by Occupational Health and Safety training, and some related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia and Workers’ Compensation Board Occupational Health and Safety-First Aid Certificate – Level II are required. Considerable knowledge of the methods, procedures, supplies, and equipment used in administering first aid treatment. Sound knowledge of Worker’s Compensation Board and WHMIS regulations applicable to the work performed.

The First Aid Attendant also possess the ability to administer first aid treatment effectively and exercise sound judgement in referring employees for medical treatment; to assist in the identification of safety issues and to assist in the delivery of safety related training and testing. The successful candidate assists the Safety Office in the delivery of the WHIMS program, hearing tests, respirator fit testing, crew talks and other safety related programs and activities; participates in safety committee meetings as required. Maintains the gas detection equipment; calibrates and signs out equipment.

Pay Rate: $33.05 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2023 Rates).
