Plan Checker

Temporary Full-Time
(Anticipated end date January 4, 2024)

 
We are seeking a highly motivated Plan Checker to join our Community Planning team on a temporary full- time basis! This position involves performing technical and administrative work in addition to providing information services to the public on Building & Plumbing Code requirements. 
 
Key Responsibilities include:

  • Providing pre-application processing advice to customers based on applicable provincial legislation and District policy.
  • Providing information to clients regarding appropriate building code, sign permits, business licenses and other information related to development and other Community Services applications.
  • Communicating design and construction deficiencies to architects, engineers, designers and project managers and ensuring steps are taken to correct such items.
  • Inspecting work in progress at intervals sufficient to ensure work is done in compliance with the approved design.
  • And so much more!

Who you are: You possess a Diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering Technology or other relevant discipline from a recognized educational institution and the ability to obtain BC Building Inspectors Level 1 Certifications (BOABC). You’ve also worked for at least two years in the building construction industry, and you have gained knowledge in all things related to building bylaws, development processes and Community Planning applications.
