PROGRAM COORDINATOR – HEALTH & FITNESS

 

(Permanent, Full-Time)

Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. The West Vancouver Parks, Culture & Community Services Department has an opening for a permanent, full-time Program Coordinator – Health and Fitness who will work from all Community Services Facilities. Reporting to the Aquatics & Community Wellness Recreation Services Supervisor, this position will be responsible for the coordination of weight room and personal training services, health and fitness programs and classes for the community.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • assessing individual and community fitness needs and interests;
  • coordinating personal training and weight room operations;
  • coordinating health and wellness initiatives, programs, and special events;
  • planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating new and/or revised programs to ensure cost efficiency, effectiveness and program relevance;
  • recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating union; non-union; casual staff and instructors;
  • preparing promotional material and promoting interest and participation in health and fitness activities of the community;
  • working collaboratively and as part of an engaged team to design, support and promote district wide health and fitness programs and services; and,
  • other related duties.

The preferred candidate will possess: strong leadership, budgetary, organizational, communication and customer service skills; previous experience and proven success in supervising a large team of fitness staff and instructors; sound knowledge of fitness facilities and equipment required for a wide range of physical abilities and age groups; personal training techniques; good knowledge of the fitness and health needs, trends, interests, requirements, and resources of the community; and familiarity with the philosophy, principles, practices, and objectives of community recreation.

The successful candidate has completed a University Degree with related courses in human kinetics, kinesiology or health & fitness or an equivalent combination of training and experience. BSc in Kinesiology would be considered an asset.  Required certification includes: BCRPA Registered Fitness Leader with the Personal Trainer specialization or equivalent; current CPR-C and Standard First Aid; and a valid BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle. Working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Excel, software is required. Working knowledge of JDE and Activenet software are ideal.

Certification in the following areas are considered an asset: Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology – Certified Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP), National Strength & Conditioning Association – Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS), or equivalent.

The successful candidate is required to supply a Police Information and a copy of their credentials.

Position Status:
Union (WVMEA) – Permanent Full-Time

Hours of Work:
37.5 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)

Starting Rate of Pay:
$32.87 per hour
This position has a pay structure with five steps which increase annually.
