Do you have a passion for the outdoors and an interest in leading and implementing a variety of recreation activities within the City of Burnaby? Our Parks, Recreation and Culture department is currently hiring for the position of a Recreation Leader 2 to join the team. This position involves leading and implementing program operations for a variety of activities, while providing leadership and instruction as necessary. Duties include promoting interest in the program, providing guidance to the public, reviewing current program offerings and assessing results of programs held. This position involves record keeping and the creation of documents such as activity reports, schedules, and supplies inventory reports. A Recreation Leader 2 may also assess cultural and social needs and assist a supervisor in developing and administering operations and programs, along with aiding in the recruitment of part time ancillary staff and contract instructors. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include the completion of a two-year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and some related experience; St. John’s First Aid and CPR Certificates are desirable; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of departmental procedures, of organized community recreation practices, and of various sports and cultural activities. This position also requires the ability to coordinate and provide leadership in recreation programs, along with the ability to maintain working relationships and prepare various records and reports. A valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
