The Utilities Group department has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Supervisor, Utilities – Wastewater. Reporting to the Utilities Superintendent, this position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly starting as soon as possible.
This role supervises the operation of the municipal EOCP Level IV Wastewater Treatment, EOCP Level III Collection system, District Energy System, and the Landfill Closure assets. This position supervises and coordinates a crew of operators and maintenance personnel, sub-contractors, and consultants to ensure the WWTP, collections system, DES plant and land fill closure assets operate effectively, efficiently, within regulatory and operating permit requirements.
Qualified candidates have completed, at minimum a two-year post-secondary program and applicable EOCP certification with at least 5 years managing wastewater treatment, wastewater collection networks, and formally supervising staff. Applicants with an equivalent combination of training and experience in water utility operations and maintenance environments may be considered. Qualified candidates demonstrate excellent working knowledge of biological nutrient removal and other advanced wastewater treatment plant technologies; comprehensive knowledge of all regulations, standards and guidelines for Municipal Wastewater Treatment and Municipal Collection Systems; and comprehensive knowledge of all applicable Laws, Regulations and By-Laws governing Occupational Health and Safety. Qualified candidates possess the abilities to read and interpret blueprints, process diagrams and other engineering-related technical documents; ability to create and maintain budgets; high level of computer software skills and comfort working with computer software, including e-mail, spreadsheets, word processors, finance, payroll, and work order software; and the ability to respond from time-to-time to upset situations or emergencies outside of normal working hours. Candidates must also be able to occasionally assist with heavy physical outdoor work at night, in very cold, very hot, snowy, or rainy conditions.
The successful candidate demonstrates strong leadership, supervisory and communication skills to clearly articulate direction and intents and is approachable and diplomatic with the strong ability to use analytical and research-oriented approaches to problem solving. The successful candidate also demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace within their team and will create and maintain effective working relationships with others while contributing to a positive environment. As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid BC class 5 driver’s license prior to beginning employment.
